U13 Clarets Host Costessey Jets
A superb performance from the Clarets goes un-rewarded
After several weeks without a game the Clarets were back in action with the tough test of hosting Costessey Jets, Town with a depleted squad went into the game looking for an improved performance than last time out against Old Catton.
Playing with a back 4 and with a game plan of high intensity and pressure it was Town who had the better of the early running and settled into the game first. There were some really nice composed passing moves as Town looked to play to their strength with the ball on the floor. Midway through the half it was the Clarets who took a deserved lead when a corner from Kirk was inadvertently put into his own net by the Costessey goalkeeper. The visitors responded well to going behind and began to grow into the game but the Thetford team stood strong and kept the score at 1-0 for half time.
The second half was started with a lot more urgency from the visitors and much of the game was now the Thetford boys defending strongly and looking to use some pace on the break. The game went on and the defence and Oli Kitley in goal looked determined to keep Costessey out, some fine saves and fantastic blocks continued to frustrate the visitors who were growing more and more desperate to score. With only a few minutes remaining the equaliser came from a free kick delivered into the Town box and a good header. The Town players were exhausted from defending like their lives depended on it and in the time added on at the end of the game Costessey broke through to score twice to give them a very flattering 3-1 win.
The whole team showed fantastic fight and desire and put in probably their best performance of the season, many candidates for Man of the Match but the coaching staff opted for Ewan Haynes
who looked commanding at Centre back.
