How did Town Lose?
By Jackie Skipp
Town lose 1-4 despite playing the better football
Thetford started slowly, and took a while to settle into the match. Their first chance came with some good play down the left from Bryant and Dean saw the ball come across for Pearson to strike just wide of the post. Thetford put the ball in the back of the net, only for the goal to be ruled off side, a minute later, good work from Bryant again saw his shot cleared off the line. FC Clacton then came forward, but a superb tackle from Bailey stopped them in their tracks. Thetford found themselves 1-0 down after Clacton's first shot on target crossed the line, after what looked like a foul on Cruickshank in goal. The rest of the half saw Thetford surging forward, with a shot from Pearson going just over, a header from Dean coming back off the crossbar, an excellent shot from Smith produced a great save from the Clacton 'keeper, McIntosh could only hit the post from the rebound. Another strike from Smith also hit the post.
Half time Town were 1-0 down.
10 minutes into the second half, an unfortunate own goal found Town 2 down. Five minutes later, a super run and cross by Pearson found Leech in the area who headed home to make the score 1-2. FC Clacton then scored 2 more quick goals. Despite further pressure from The Brecklanders, they didn't managed to find the back of the net again, and the game finished with a disappointing 1-4 lose despite being the better team for the majority of the game.
